If you are in or near the DC Metro area:
The best way for you to participate is to attend the Capital DotNetNuke Users Group meeting. Attending the meeting makes you eligible for some great prizes and cool Hackathon-branded swag.
When: June 16, 2010 @ 7 PM
Where: 1900 Gallows Road, Vienna, VA 22182
Please Register to Attend so that we can make sure that there’s enough food and drinks for everyone. Note: You must physically be present at the meeting in order to be eligible for prizes that are reserved for meeting attendees.
If you are anywhere else:
If you cannot attend the meeting in person, you are in luck. We wanted to open the Hackathon to as many developers around the world as possible so we will be streaming the Hackathon live. You will be able to view presentation screens and meeting audio using just your browser and computer speakers. And of course, you can also participate in
How Does it Work
Participating in the Hackathon is more than just attending the launch meeting -- in order to participate (and be eligible to win a prize) you have to create a DotNetNuke module that follows the theme for the Hackathon. Here's a quick summary of how the Hackathon will be organized. For more details, see the Hackathon Schedule page.
- In the days leading up to the Hackathon we will post ideas that you can use to build your module for the Hackathon.
- You are free to ignore our ideas for the module you will build. As long as the base requirements are met, you can design the module as you wish and add any features you think are interesting. In fact you are encouraged to be creative, to push the envelope...ultimately your peers in the Hackathon have to think your module is cool or you won't get their vote to win.
- When the Hackathon kicks off, our speakers Nik Kalyani and Joe Brinkman will present some ideas on how you can create interesting UI's for DotNetNuke modules.
- We will use Twitter to communicate using the hash tag #hackathon
- After the user group meeting ends, the Hackathon will continue for a period of four days.
- When the Hackathon period is complete, all developers who participated in the Hackathon can vote for the module they think is the best. Each developer has points that and he/she may allocate to other developer modules. The developer with the most points wins.
- When the voting period ends, we tabulate the points and declare the winnners in various categories.
